Basic Technique w/Janek Gwizdala

I found this fantastic 4 lesson free video series online by one of my favorite bass players and bass educators; Janek Gwizdala. In this first video of the series Janek shows us some basic technique exercises and hand position instruction. Really important stuff for any electric bass player. If you enjoy his teaching style go check out his website at www.janekgwizdala.com or videobasslessons.tv.

Review: Ashdown ABM-500 EVO III and ABM-610 (updated w/audio samples)

I have been using my Ashdown ABM 500 EVO III head and ABM 610 cabinet for over a year now and have played through it on over 120 shows ranging from huge festivals with thousands of people to small clubs.

For Ashdown, this is their third revision of the ABM line. I also own an ABM-300 EVO, which I purchased over ten years ago in the UK. Unlike the original series, the new line is manufactured in China as opposed to the UK. This hasn’t affected the build quality in anyway and reliability still seems to be high.

The differences on this amp compared to the EVO II are not dramatic. Possibly the biggest change is the inclusion of a foot-switchable on-board compressor. They have also combined the two foot switches into a single four-channel pedal controlling Valve Drive, EQ, Compressor and Sub-Harmonics.

Master Class: Jaco – Modern Electric Bass

Bass master Jaco Pastorius’ full length bass instruction video. It accompanies the Book of the same name available here. He certainly rambles quite a bit in this video but there are a few nuggets of bass wisdom.
